Dill, candles, institutes of virginity
Dogs dressed in pajamas,
Cats scratching your back and lips and hips.
Fellows of everyday lost in accidental accidents head to toe in the ancient meditations,
Earth burning in the waters of infinity, inside the digital eternity.
And it is still O.K. not to be in love.”
NaiveSuperstar
For her solo exhibition at BR Club NaïveSuperstar presents new works the artist created mainly for her first exhibition in Brussels. The works exhibited include all the materials the artist has been using recently: tapestry, plants, natural stones, masks, prints and it will also showcase all the mediums Jishkariani has been working on in her very diverse practice these being crafts, painting, video, installation, objects and mosaic. Permanent Adolescence is an attempt by NaiveSuperstar to reflect the diversity of the thoughts she simultaneously experiences in her head, to give a physical form to her thinking process. The exhibition is about childhood dreams, lost cities, sunken treasures, pink mountains and also random power earned through adulthood but yet again this exhibition is about the monotonous of everyday. But most importantly this exhibition is about continuous movement, which reflects Permanent Adolescence for the artist.
Gvantsa Jishkariani is based in Tbilisi, Georgia. After studying at Tbilisi State Academy of Art (BA in Architecture) she gained an informal MA in Inclusive Mediation at Center of Contemporary Art - Tbilisi. In 2017, she won Tsinandali Award in visual arts.
Jishkariani is an artist whose primary medium is installation. Her work addresses first and foremost the topics of expectations, beliefs and taste. The temporary nature of the paradox that arises when searching for concrete definitions of right and wrong, east and west, old and new is one of her subjects of interest.
Gvantsa’s art is inspired by serendipity and intuition. She starts each work with preconceived composition and idea, but mostly without preliminary sketches. She wonders how ancient superstitions, social media and surrounding trashy images influence everyday life; how emotions, memories, views and personality is created. Since 2014 Jishkariani, with ten other female artists is part of an art group New Collective.
In 2017, Jishkariani founded Patara Gallery in an underpass shop in Tbilisi, which is a space for experimental, denied or not-yet-seen art and for game-changing young artists. In 2018 Gvantsa co-founded The Why Not Gallery in Tbilisi, Georgia.
